Orwell 1984

The parallels between George Orwell's novel, 1984, and the current epidemic of the disinformation and double speak have not been missed by concerned observers.

The documentary Orwell Rolls In His Grave examines the media and asks whether America has entered into an Orwellian world where false information is reported as fact.

The problem is not lack of either understanding or of alarm by those who are paying attention, it is in finding a way to speak out when neither public officials nor the media want us to be heard.

	E-mails are deleted.
	Public demonstrations go unreported.
	Petitions and letters are ignored.

So how do we make ourselves heard?

The Orwell 1984 Project proposes organizing a mass mailing of 1984 to the White House, congress, and national news services.

1984 is an important and a forceful book. It is referenced daily by those who are alarmed that important officials in our country have misunderstood that George Orwell wrote 1984 as cautionary tale, and have instead used it as a study guide.
We believe that if a hundred thousand copies of 1984 were sent to the White House, Congress, and news services it would make an indelible statement, a statement that may help galvanize the broad spectrum of public opinion in rejecting government by fear-mongering and doublespeak.

To make this happen, we will need to:

	Determine whether there is sufficient interest and support for this action
	Investigate the logistics, including identifying a distributor
	Obtain adequate funding
	Set a target date
	Link with national web sites
	Other?
